Zumba and Bubby

30 Aug

It is almost time for me to go to my first ever Zumba class!! I have heard a lot of great things about Zumba and how it is extremely fun and doesn’t even feel like working out. I think taking classes and working out with other people is a lot easier for me to want to excersize.

I’m such an outgoing person, why would I want to be stuck on a treadmill all by my lonesome?

I also want to take the Body Pump class they are offering too but I decided to do one thing at a time. I mean I will probably be exhausted after the first 5min today!

Also, today is a very special day! Today my little brother is 22!!! Happy Birthday Bubby!!!

That there is my handsome brother Jeffrey and my adorable son Luke at Ocean City, MD…about 3wks ago maybe? Jeff is such an amazing man. He just recently graduated from college…my alumni college…GO TOWSON UNIV!!! with a double major in psychology and criminal justice. He wants to get into law enforcement and get into the FBI one day but he knows he will have to work his way to that point so he is looking into becoming a police officer. I am so very proud of him and the amazing person he has become.

Makes me very happy that my son looks up to him because of all the role models in the world, I would love my son to grow up like my brother has. He was involved in sports, never did drugs or smoked. yes, he did his fair share of underage drinking at college but who hasn’t? But also besides that, Jeff is motivated, goal oriented, and just has this drive in him to succeed. A life full of energy!

Tomorrow we are having a birthday party for him with cake and ice cream.

I am also excited because we may be going to our beach house at the ocean this weekend! I love going to the beach for the weekend. Its about a two and half hour drive so not to far but its just amazing to get away for those few days. I love it!

Lukey at the beach, he looks really red here but I promise he wasn’t!

I also have some exciting plans coming up…my best friends bachelorette party! I am her maid of honor and am in the beginning stages of planning but we will most likely be having the party in Atlantic City, NJ!!  Love that place. I am in the beginning stages with the other girls going so as details unfold, I will post.

Recap of the weekend and Monday madness

29 Aug

So I have been super busy these past few days. Friday night we had a midnight inventory push so I worked a 16hr day. They fed us dinner which was cool and had deserts as well. Don’t ask me what kinds bc I didn’t want to look! I did have 1 chocolate chip cookie but I deserved that bc I got the asian salad and was THE ONLY person who got something healthy.

saturday morning i got up to take my son to his first ever soccer practice. It was a 2hr practice that ended at noon. It wasn’t really a practice but more of a clinic I guess you could say.  He did really well considering it lasted 2hours. Towards the end though he was getting tired and whining but I told him we made the commitment to come today and we were going to finish it out and he needed to suck it up and be a team player.  He would start whining if someone else got the ball and he didn’t “win”.

That is my son to the right kicking the ball.

Right after, we rushed around getting toilet paper and a few last minute items for the hurricane.  Had a bday party @ 2:00 and afterwards we  ordered pizza. I ordered a yummy greek salad with extra feta and ate a small piece of the pizza. Dont judge me pls! I also forgot to take pics of my salad…hey I am new at this!!

So the hurricane hit last night. Tons of rain until like 4am and then I started to hear the winds. Actually I got woken up over them. I fell asleep on the couch and went into the bedroom when I woke up…it wa scary! Things were moving around out front and it just freaked me out. So big luke moved over and I crawled into bed with him. Since I was awake and I woke him up, we watched tv til 6 and passed back out. During those 2hrs the electric would go out and come right back on several times. Since Luke is an electrician, he said it was the wires touching each other from the heavy winds.

We never lost power for any length of time! Thankfully the storm didn’t cause us any issues. My parents however lost electric at 1:30am and has yet to return.

Today has been a lazy day. I need to go to the grocery store for a few items but just haven’t found the motivation. This has been a weekend full of carryout and kitchen laziness bc for dinner tonight we are having applebees curbside to go. I am getting the oriental chicken salad. Yummo!

This morning (monday) I had my first ever dermatology appt. I have a mole on my scalp that I appeared there when I was pregnant. I want to get it removed and also wanted to get my face cleared up. I have never had acne in my life but since I turned 30 I have been breaking out on my chin and jawline. I have been reading that it is hormone related and common but for someone who has never had issues with there skin before…I’m freaking out. So they gave me some samples of some moisturizer and a prescription for some cream I am to put on after the moisturizer drys to hopefully help with the acne and prevent scarring. The samples of the moisturizer are called Cerave PM and the cream is called Finacea. I am going to go on and check out the reviews for these products.

Ok I’m going to stop typing on this post because for some reason it won’t let me link anything and is acting strangely. Maybe because I originally wrote this post on my cell last night, saved it, and am now trying to edit it on a computer? Hmmmm

Ramblings and rants of a PMS queen!

25 Aug
I am kinda bummed about things today. I am bummed about the weather and the fact the sun isn’t shining and its rainy out.

I am PMS’n hardcore and feel like getting mad and sad all at the same time.

I am a little bummed today as well because I was supposed to go and pick up my Maid of Honor dress tonight after work. It is a little over an hour drive to get to the store, and I can’t do it this weekend and chose tonight because every Thursday my son’s Nana (his father’s mother) picks him up and we don’t have to get him til 8ish.

I also for some reason that I have NO IDEA WHY, was not given an invite to the party being held at work today, for a girl whose last day is tomorrow.  Not sure why, but two girls I had been very friendly with…I have been withdrawing from the past few months. We don’t talk anymore and I assume they dislike me now. We never had a falling out (that i am aware of) but I didn’t want to associate with them anymore. All they do is talk about other people , make fun of others, against any kind of team activities, and just have a bad attitude about things. So since I was working on bettering my life (eating healthy, going to a therapist, etc) I decided to start talking to the positive people I work with instead.

And for once, I was happy coming to work! So what if my hair wasn’t perfect and my toe nail polish is chipping and badly needs a polish change? Does that make me a bad person? That is what I had to worry about with them on a daily basis. WE ARE NOT IN MIDDLE SCHOOL ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!

Enough of that, so last night for dinner I ate over my parent’s house again. My little brother cooked Turkey Kielbasa with rice and veggies. It was very yummy!! I am not much of a sausage and red meat kinda gal but every once in awhile I can manage it.

It was a nice change, I will say that. Since it was turkey meat I was a bit excited about that too.

For dessert (sorry I have no pics of the disaster!) my stepmother made a recipe found in the newspaper for fudge. It called for Jell-o chocolate pudding mix (stove-top kind…NOT instant), butter, and powdered sugar. Seemed easy enough but I am guessing it wasn’t left long enough in the fridge to harden because when it was brought out after dinner, it honestly looked like we were eatting baby poop!!!!

My stepmother is an amazing cook so it was pretty funny that it didn’t turn out well considering it took hardly nothing to make.

Even though I have raging PMS and am probably Queen B*tch right now, nothing can get me down on Thursday nights.

Thursday has THE BEST tv shows on! AND…

While watching TV last night, I also saw a commercial for the premiere date for Season 3 of one of my FAVORITE tv shows of all times.

I absolutely love me some Vampire Diaries. I have read ALL of the books too. I will admit the books tended to get major dumb and ridiculous the more that was published. BUT I couldn’t resist downloading them in my Kindle app!
Season 3 is starting on Thursday,September 15th!!!

  1. Is anyone else a fan of Vampire Diaries, Twilight, or all things vampires?
  2. IF so, which are your favs? and why?
  3. What football team do you rep?
  4. Any feedback on how to improve my blog would be great! also, how do i change the heading on the top of my page and also add my picture on the right hand side?

RoFo coffee and Honestea

24 Aug

For the record…I am abso-frickin-lutely in major LOVE with Royal Farms coffee. I can’t explain it, it just tastes sooooo good!! I even have a Keurig and have bought a gazilion and one different flavors but my staple is still Royal Farms. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of different flavors I very much enjoy in my Keurig. I’m jus sayin’…..

I’m a Royal Farms girl at heart

So for my breakfast I had my regular Chobani yogurt mixed with Kashi cereal

I eat this every day for breakfast along with my banana. Honestly, I am the type of gal that if I like something, I don’t get sick of eating it everyday…which I find that can come in handy. Like I eat hummus everyday and don’t get sick of it.

So let’s talk about my lunch…because that is what I’m really truly excited about.

get in mah belly!!
This is the very first time I have tried this lunch and let me tell you it did not disappoint. I am definitely purchasing again and all thanks to Lean Cuisine!! I normally pack some sort of frozen meal for lunch or leftovers. Honestly I’d like to change that one day by making fresher things but I have a confession….I’m not much of a cook.
that is about to change and it is all thanks to the blogs I have been lurking on. I have been keeping a word document of a few great looking recipes that I am honestly excited to try out. I have only been saving the ones that look pretty easy as to kinda ease myself into the whole cooking thing.
You are probably wondering what my son eats since I am not a cook. His father is the cook, and is pretty decent at it but will only cook things that will clog my arteries and fatten my thighs. (not like i need them anymore fatter!)
Oh and back to my lunch (sorry I am jumping around here). Another first time try is this drink that I am really loving too!
This is such a great organic tea and i was very surprised bc this was one of the one’s I purchased and thought i wasn’t going to like the best. Isn’t is amahhhzing when u think you’re not going to like something but to only end up loving it instead!?!?! LOVE when that happens.
So it seems like a win-win today for me as far as my lunch.
I am going to be working overtime today (which i will be doing everyday until Oct 1st) but I am going to TRY and get some time in walking on the treadmill tonight at my parents since I am going over for dinner after work.

This is the exact model we have. It’s really awesome. It’s a nordic track c900 and very easy to walk on.  I just can’t seem to find the motivation and energy to want to walk on it. I wish I lived closer to some of you so that we could be work-out buddies or help motivate me. I really need someone to ‘push’ me because once I incorporate excercise back into my life I will be fine…it’s just easier said than done for me. I hate it. Why is it the one thing I want most in this world (to be thin, healthy, and fit and love myself) I don’t do? I just don’t get it.

Sorry this post started off so energetic and now its all depressing. I sound like I’m bi-polar! (which I’m not).

Bottom line, I need to continue working on building a different and better relationship with food. Random but on-topic thought: I work for a health insurance company and every year they offer a health assessment along with the flu shot. If you take this assessment you get a few hundred bucks deducted from your health insurance which in turn makes us pay very little each paycheck.

However, in 2012 we will be rated on our assessment and will LOSE money if there are areas that we are unhealthy in. Here is the list of things we need to pass in order to get the full amount towards our insurance:

  • Complete the Health Assessment and Biometric Screening
  • Get their flu shot
  • Do not use nicotine products (does not include smoking cessation products)
  • Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) less than 30W

Well I smoke ciggs (yes, yes, i know, a dirty DISGUSTING habit) and i have a BMI of over 30 so I’m screwed there! I think I’m going to look into smoking cessation things work has to offer!

 Happy Hump day everyone!!

23 Aug

Going to make this post real short. We just had probably the biggest earthquake on the east coast.  It was a 5.9’er which is unheard of on this side of the US.

Here is where you can read up on it. We are expecting aftershocks anytime now some news stations are reporting. I am okay and so is my family. Will report more on this event tomorrow. Hope all my east coast bloggers are safe!!

Police Theft! Oh no!!!

22 Aug

There are many many reasons why i CANNOT stand mondays! But i won’t bore you to tears with them because i have a feeling we all share many of these same reasons.

Too funny!!

So this weekend was actually very nice. Why you ask? Well,I’m glad that you asked and so i will tell you. BECAUSE I HAD NOTHING TO DO!!! There was not one thing that i absolutely had to do, or planned to do this weekend. Let me tell you how GREAT it felt!!!!!!  It seems like every weekend this summer i have had some sort of plans, whether it be parties, picnics, birthdays, carnivals, errands for my bff’s wedding (i’m her maid of honor) party planning, cleaning, moving, shopping, the list goes on and on. But this weekend I had none of that (well except i did run to the grocery store real quick yesterday).

Saturday, big Luke had to work. I dropped him off, and me and Lukey had a mother and son day. It was so fun. We went to chic-fila, to the park, and on our way home from the park we stopped at Dunkin Donuts. And not because we wanted to eat there, but because the Maryland State Police were doing their annual “Cops on Rooftops”.

Cops on Rooftops

It’s a 2-day event where cops sit on the roof of dunkin donuts waving with one of those flashing light thingys that are on tops of their cars to attract people  to the event in hopes of them donating to the special olympics. The event also had face painting, a moon bounce, and a rock climb. Not sure if all dunkin donuts did this, but the one i went to was raffling off a motorcycle.  There were also a police car there that the kids could sit in and look at and a police dogs that showed the kids tricks and an officer talked to the kids about what the dog does for the police force.
We definitely had a great time but wanna hear the worst part of attending this event? After spending a great deal of time outside in the direct sunlight, we decide to head inside and cool down with a drink and air conditioning. Yes, we buy Coolatta’s (i’m sorry!! i couldn’t help it!!).  Lukey wanted the “blue” drink

and i ordered a vanilla and chocolate  Coolatta for myself. Let me tell you…it was soooo delish!!! yum!!! Anyway we decided to sit inside and drink our drinks as we had about 30min to waste before we picked up his dad from work. While sitting there, I saw a cute Joe Flacco (GOOOOO RAVENS) ravens coffee mug. I said to my son (bc he loves his “rabens”) “look at the ravens cup! isn’t it cute?” He proceeds to tell me, yes mom it is cute and that i should buy it. i told him i didn’t have anymore money and maybe i can get it one day as a gift for christmas, etc.

I call on big Luke the phone before heading out to see if he wanted a drink or  any donuts. Of course he wanted 2 of his FAVORITE donuts from there.

Luke’s favorite…strawberry jelly filled
the strawberry jelly filled kind! But definitely you cannot get the powdered sugar ones, HAS to be the ones with just sugar sprinkled over top. (not sure what the difference is besides the powdered sugar vs regular sugar).
As we were walking out the door, I had my arms full of  both our drinks, his fathers newly purchased drink, donuts, my keys, wallet, and phone (and no, i had zero pockets on my pants). Needless to say, i wasn’t holding hands walking across the parking lot with my son. Which was okay bc no one was driving in the parking lot anyway because of the fundraiser. So he was trailing behind me, i get to the car, somehow manage to open his door AND the passenger door to unload my arms, he climbs into his car seat, i buckle him up and head off to home. We get home and i go around to open his door for him and what do i find on the floor??? but the dunkin donuts cup i told him i liked!!!! That little devil stole it!!! I picked up the cup, and asked him why he has it. He said he wanted to give it to me  because i liked it. Trust me when I tell you, it was hard to reprimand him, not for stealing it but bc of his intentions of taking it. I mean he is only 4yrs old. he has NO IDEA that it is not ok to pick up things in a store and not pay for them. He has no concept of stealing and to me…he is purely innocent. BUT there was a lesson to be taught in this situation. So we sat down, and i told him why he wasn’t allowed to do that and then i “called” the store and “paid” for it. I know i should have taken it back but frankly, we were both worn out, he was dead tired and ready for a nap, and I just didn’t feel like going back out.

this is the mug he walked out with

sorry for the thumbnail pic, i couldn’t find one online except for this

Soo yesterday on his way home with his father, they stop at Sheetz. Lukey has a bit of a fit apparently because he wanted a milkshake. Luke told him no, he would make him one at the house. He was upset because he wanted to buy something and wasn’t allowed. (he is going thru this stage where he THINKS he has to buy something in every store he walks into). So luke stuck to his word and didn’t purchase him anything. They walk outside and luke asks him for his hand to hold crossing the parking lot. Lukey wouldn’t give it to him and he turns around, and sees him with this huge smile on his face and his hands behind his back. Luke told him he wanted to see what was in his hands. Luke stole a banana!!

Luckily they were still at the store because Luke said he grabbed him up and took him back into the store to give back the banana (which the cashier said thank you for bringing it back) and was forced to apologize to her. He then got a stern lecture on the way home about why that is unacceptable and was told to go into his room until he was allowed out.
So a LOOONG story short, I think I handled the coffee mug incident in the wrong way bc I think Lukey thought it was OK to take things.
QUESTION: Do you think i handled the coffee mug theft wrong? Please be honest and truthful…you WILL NOT hurt my feelings in the least little bit.
I was pretty happy with myself, thinking he understood what i told him and that it was just something that kids do. no big deal.

The 3 C’s, Caffiene, Carpal Tunnel, and Children

17 Aug

Someone please help me stay awake today!!! It has been a killer few days so far this week. I have been working 10hr days, sitting in front of a computer the entire time. I stopped at Royal Farm Store today and snagged a 24oz coffee. Let me tell you, if your a fan of coffee and have never tried theirs before…DO IT! I promise you won’t be disappointed.

For breakfast I had my normal Kashi cereal with strawberry Chobani and you’d think with all that protein i’d be wired. NOT!!! I keep telling myself I am doing it for the money! I NEED the money! You can do this!

So from all of my typing/writing, etc., my wrists have been KILLING me. Mainly my left one. Now I know I am most likely not sitting properly at my desk. (somewhat but not perfect) and that has been a definite factor but my wrists have always some what hurt for years now. Never anything i couldnt deal with but this week really bad to where I can ‘t even put pressure on my left one. My GH here at work (gay husband), Tim, told me to get it checked out and it will most likely be some form of carpal tunnel, have surgery and then take a vaca on short term disability! Ummm not sure about that one.

Well, i didn’t really understand carpal tunnel. I mean I knew the basics, how you get it, etc., but never knew about it in detail. So I did a bit of research and here is what I came up with:

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome – Topic Overview

What is carpal tunnel syndrome?

Carpal tunnel syndrome is pain, tingling, and other problems in your hand because of pressure on the median nerve in your wrist.

The median nerve and several tendons run from your forearm to your hand through a small space in your wrist called the carpal tunnel. The median nerve controls movement and feeling camera in your thumb and first three fingers (not your little finger).

What causes carpal tunnel syndrome?

Pressure on the median nerve causes carpal tunnel syndrome. This pressure can come from swelling or anything that makes the carpal tunnel smaller. Things that can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome include:

What are the symptoms?

Carpal tunnel syndrome can cause tingling, numbness, weakness, or pain in the fingers or hand. Some people may have pain in their arm between their hand and their elbow.

Symptoms most often occur in the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and half of the ring finger. If you have problems with your other fingers but your little finger is fine, this may be a sign that you have carpal tunnel syndrome. A different nerve gives feeling to the little finger.

You may first notice symptoms at night. You may be able to get relief by shaking your hand.

How is carpal tunnel syndrome diagnosed?

Your doctor will do a physical exam and ask about your health and activities. You also may have some tests.

Your doctor will ask if you have any health problems-such as arthritis, hypothyroidism, or diabetes-or if you are pregnant. He or she will ask if you recently hurt your wrist, arm, or neck. Your doctor will want to know about your daily routine and any recent activities that could have hurt your wrist.

During the exam, your doctor will check the feeling, strength, and appearance of your neck, shoulders, arms, wrists, and hands.

Your doctor may suggest tests, such as:

  • Blood tests to see if any health problems might be causing your symptoms.
  • Nerve testing to find out if the median nerve is working as it should.

How is it treated?

Mild symptoms usually can be treated with home care. The sooner you start treatment, the better your chances of stopping symptoms and preventing long-term damage to the nerve.

You can do a few things at home to help your hand and wrist feel better:

  • Stop activities that cause numbness and pain. Rest your wrist longer between activities.
  • Ice your wrist for 10 to 15 minutes 1 or 2 times an hour. Try taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)to relieve pain and reduce swelling.
  • Wear a wrist splint at night to keep your wrist in a neutral position. This takes pressure off your median nerve. Your wrist is in a neutral position when it is straight or only slightly bent. Holding a glass of water is an example of your wrist in a neutral position.See your doctor if your symptoms do not get better after 1 to 2 weeks of home care, or if you have had bad symptoms from the start. You may need medicine for carpal tunnel syndrome or for a health problem that made you likely to get carpal tunnel syndrome.

Surgery is an option. But it’s usually used only when symptoms are so bad that you can’t work or do other things even after several weeks to months of other treatment.

During surgery, the doctor cuts the ligament at the top of the carpal tunnel. This makes more room in the tunnel and relieves pressure on the nerve. Surgery usually works to ease symptoms. But in some cases it does not completely get rid of numbness or pain

So there ya have it! I don’t believe I have numbness however I do smoke, (bleh), obseity (sigh), and I type all day (I am an FEP claims processor for Carefirst BCBS). So…I guess if it worsens I’ll call my Dr.

Random topic, I just wanted to announce how proud I am of my son. Luke has been waking up every morning for at least the past month with a clean pull-up on! I told him when he can start waking up at night to go pee on the potty instead of in his pull-ups he can have a big boy bed. Right now we have his crib broken down into a toddler bed. You should see him in it, since he is already big for his age…he looks ginormous in this bed. So I am going to get him a bed maybe tomorrow or by this weekend at latest. Yay for my boy! I had refused to purchase a twin bed for him if he was going to continue to pee and possibly ruin his mattress. No way Jose!! So I think with one of those plastic sheets over top of the mattress and under his cotton sheets he should be good to go now.

Well I’m off to my WW mtg., I will report back in a bit with some good or bad news! I have been off of WW for 3wks now and this is our first time back into the 2nd session. *keeps fingers crossed(=*
